Something that's gained my fascination lately is people make the decision to travel to dangerous countries. Are these people not worried about getting robbed or beaten up? It boggles my mind when I hear things like, "I biked through Iran/went hiking in Turkmenistan and I was perfectly fine. I had no problems with the police and I didn't witness any crime. It's totally safe for tourists." Totally safe? Seriously? When I think "totally safe" places like Central Asia don't exactly come to mind. I know some of you are probably thinking, "Well, if people are saying these places are safe for tourists, then they're safe. Live a little. As long as you have some common sense you'll be fine." Sure, but the things you would need to worry about when going to, say, Somaliland aren't exactly things you would need to worry about when going to France or Australia.
